University commencement season in New York City starts on Friday, in a climate that is anything but normal. At N.Y.U., dozens of graduate student workers are threatening to withhold grades if the university does not remove police officers from campus. Nemat Shafik, Columbia’s president, announced on Monday that the school was canceling its main commencement ceremony, largely for security reasons. will hold its large commencement ceremony at Yankee Stadium next Wednesday. CNN —Paul Auster, the acclaimed American author of “The New York Trilogy,” has died at age 77. A host of media outlets reported that Auster’s death was confirmed by his friend and fellow author Jacki Lyden. Auster began translating the works of French writers when he moved to France after graduating from Columbia University in 1970. Major recognition came after the publication of “The New York Trilogy” – a series of experimental detective stories – in 1987. Two and a half centuries after its creation, the Royal Academy of Arts in London — an artist-and-architect-led institution that is a bastion of the British establishment — is embracing inclusivity. In the lawsuit obtained by CNN, New York artist John Bonafede claims MoMA didn’t do enough to protect him and fellow nude artists from assault. “Imponderabilia” was one part of “The Artist is Present,” a larger MoMA exhibition celebrating Abramović’s storied career. Several “Imponderabilia” performers reported being groped during the 2010 exhibit. It’s immediately clear that the 30-something Gasda, whose 2022 play “Dimes Square” captured the crowd of artists, writers and scenesters in New York City’s downtown, has spent significant time observing his younger subjects. With the exception of a few awkward phrases, his naturalistic play captures the way Gen Z talks. “Zoomers” opens with three roommates ambling around their Brooklyn apartment in Bushwick, a land where shaggy hair is a personality trait and hard kombucha might as well be on tap. Michael (Jonah O’Hara-David), Jacob (Henry Lynch), and Jada (Reneé-Nicole Powell) are recovering from a night of respective drinking, smoking weed and existential dread. For the emotionally stunted Jacob in particular, it’s a pleasurable escape whenever conversations get too heated.
